From Hickory and areas East: take I-40W, exit 116 at Icard and left at the end of the ramp, at the stoplight take Miller Bridge Road to the end, then left on Hwy. 18S for 2-3 miles, then right on Sugarloaf Road to the end, then left on Old Hwy. 18S for 3 miles and follow the signs to PINE MOUNTAIN RESORT and Golf Course.

On a recent weekend to "The Mountain Retreat", guests Jess and Lisa Hensarling tried their hand at assisting Michael Bailey, Chef and owner of the restaurant, Michael's On The Mountain. Jess assisted in the cooking while Lisa did some waiting. (PS...you are supposed to rest and "lay-back" at The Mountain Retreat, Jess and Lisa! NOT WORK! I heard from the "horse's mouth"...you did a GREAT JOB!)

"Joy" at The Mountain Retreat!
"Joy", a two-week old fawn, stumbled across the driveway of The Mountain Retreat on Saturday, June 18, 2005, without her mother and lay down beneath the mountain laurel. Barbara and Kirk Neely, cabin guests from Charlotte, NC, had the privilege of being "fawn keepers" for the evening. They closely observed "Joy" for several hours until its mother returned to feed and lead her to safety. Thank you, Barbara and Kirk!
